# Hypothalamus
The hypothalamus is a small region of the brain located just below the [[Thalamus]]. It plays a crucial role in many important functions, including the regulation of body temperature, hunger, thirst, and sleep. It's also involved in the regulation of the [[Autonomic nervous system]], and the release of hormones from the pituitary gland. It is sometimes referred to as the "master gland" because of its central role in controlling many bodily functions.
