# Refactoring the education system ## Ideas of Yoram Harpaz [[Yoram Harpaz]] discussed this topic and proposed the following: ### What is the aim of education? - The first aim of education is to socialize students to provide them with tools practical habits and behaviors skills. The aim of those is to introduce those people into society and work - A second one is to mold the character to much society's expectations. So in this case the goal is actually to use education as a means to adapt or to mold or to yeah basically forming them - The third one is to help the students be able to reach their full potential to fulfill them. If this vision the goal is to help them find their own element what they are good at what they are made to be doing.  To help them find the link between their talent and their passion.  So in this case it is education as individuation ### Educational three masters - The first one is society society wants tools - The second one is culture it wants canonical truths and values - The third one is individuals who want fulfillment and enlightenment Those three educational goals are actually contradictory to some extent The message of education association is that you have to make it and manage a successful career Educational socialization passes the message that what is important is that we because good human beings Education as individuation delivers message that's what's most important is that you live your own authentic life and fulfill what you are meant to be doing Those three messages can't be harmonized or reconciled Each education shapes the means of education differently. Curriculums focus on the acquisition of skills - Proposal - Restructure into different kinds of schools - Socializing schools: provide tools-oriented education. Initiate to knowledge-based careers (computer science, medicine, law, etc). Practical studies - Acculturating schools: humanistic disciplines and pure sciences, for the pleasure of learning and researching. Developing the mind and humanity. School for geeks and nerds. Also practical training in theaters, research centers, etc - Individuating schools: for students with autonomic interests. Students will pick what they want to learn. For "undisciplined" students ## References - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2wYqARLi7o
