See [[Self-regulation]]
Tips to develop that skill:
- Take fresh air
- Go outside, walk and play
- Let the energy out
- When the heart rate increases, more blood flows to the brain, which increases the brain power available to think
- Blow bubbles
- Making bubbles is a fun way to learn to take deep breaths at a regular rhythm
- Read together
- Reading books about emotions is a wonderful way to explore feelings that our kids have
- Listen to music
- Calm music helps settle kids down
- Making up simple/silly songs is also a fun way to calm down
- Rest and nutrition
- Lack of sleep, dehydration and hunger weakens our social-emotional skills. Sometimes, kids just need a snack or take a nap to feel better
