# YouTube video preparation - Checklist - Having a checklist helps me work through the process of scripting. Without it I always felt kind of lost. I suppose one day scripting might become second-nature. But for now a good old simple checklist helps me see where I'm up to. - Brain dump - This is where I can dump all my ideas about the video. It usually starts off pretty messy. But because Tana is an outliner at heart, I can then start to move things around and create a rough first outline. - Script - Hook: In today's video... - Intro - Hi! My name is Sébastien and I create YouTube videos about... - Today we're talking about... - Main points - Wrap up - Connect to audience - Who is the audience? - What problem does it solve for them? - How will it solve their problem? - Screen share components - Because my channel is predominantly tutorials, I list out each screen share component I need to film. This helps me get clear about what I want to show. I've found this invaluable to think about BEFORE I start recording my screen. It saves so much time. - Segments - I'm building some regular segments into each video to break things up from just regular old tutorials. My first segment is 'Ev's Big Sister Advice' where I share some sensible advice/wisdom about the topic. I like to script this out separately as I'll be filming it from a different angle.
