# AI Attachmate plugin for Obsidian AI Attachmate is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by mesqueeb that transcribes PDFs, images and Canvas files into [[Markdown]] notes. Once set up, it runs in the background: attach a file, get a Markdown transcript. PDFs and images go to Google's [[Gemini]] API with your own key (the free tier works, but its daily cap means a big vault can take a while to process the first time). Canvas files are transcribed locally, no key needed. You control the prompt, the output template, which files get processed (glob patterns) and where the transcripts land (e.g., `./` puts them next to the attachment). Each transcript keeps a zone for your own notes that survives re-transcription, and deleting an attachment removes its transcript. Two caveats. It's new, and it hadn't been manually reviewed by the Obsidian team when I looked. And mind what you send: anything transcribed this way leaves your machine. For a local alternative, see my [[Transcriber plugin for Obsidian|Transcriber]] plugin (local [[Ollama]] vision models). ## References - Source code: https://github.com/mesqueeb/obsidian-ai-attachmate - Community plugin page: https://obsidian.md/plugins?id=ai-attachmate ## Related - [[The Complete Guide to Obsidian Search - Find Any Note When You Need It (Article)]] - [[The Best Obsidian Plugins for Finding Notes (Article)]] - [[OCR Extractor plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Transcriber plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Gemini]] - [[AI Privacy]] - [[Canvas core plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Obsidian Community Plugins]]
