# Automatic Linker plugin for Obsidian
Automatic Linker is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Kodai Nakamura (kdnk) that converts plain-text references to your notes into wikilinks. Where the [[Backlinks core plugin for Obsidian|core Backlinks plugin]] only lets you link unlinked mentions note by note, Automatic Linker can do it on save ("Format on save"), on a selection, or on the whole vault by command.
Three properties control it per note:
- `automatic-linker-off: true` disables linking in that note
- `automatic-linker-exclude: true` keeps the note from being a link target. Do this for notes with generic titles like "Ideas"
- `automatic-linker-scoped: true` limits linking to notes in the same folder
It handles CJK text and optional case-insensitive matching. It can also rewrite GitHub, Jira or Linear URLs and fetch page titles, which means network calls; turn that off if you don't want them.
The main risk is over-linking: short or common words that happen to be note titles end up linked everywhere. And since it writes to your files, back up your vault before running it on everything, and exclude short or generic titles first.
If you prefer to review every link before it's created, use [[Link Unlinked Mentions plugin for Obsidian|Link Unlinked Mentions]] instead.
