# Berget AI
**Berget AI is a Swedish cloud provider serving open-weight models over an OpenAI-compatible API, with everything running on Swedish hardware.** Founded 2024. The pitch is not price or performance, it's jurisdiction.
## What they offer
- **Serverless inference** — managed open models behind an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, so switching is a base-URL change
- **Berget Code** — agentic coding on their infrastructure
- **Dedicated inference** for fine-tuned models, announced but not shipped
- A platform dashboard on top
Pricing runs from a free tier (€5 of credits) to €500/month enterprise with a €550 top-up, all pay-as-you-go underneath.
## The actual argument
Everything sits in Sweden, on 100% fossil-free electricity (hydro, wind, nuclear, solar). No data leaves EU infrastructure, and no US entity is in the path — which is the point, because that's what makes Schrems II a non-issue rather than a legal opinion you have to buy. They also cite GDPR controls with audit trails and NIS2-aligned monitoring.
Target buyer is obvious once you read it that way: public sector, healthcare, finance, anyone whose data cannot legally touch a US hyperscaler.
## Worth knowing
They serve open models, not their own frontier model. So the capability ceiling is whatever the best open weights currently do, which means a real gap against [[Claude]] or [[GPT-5]] on the hardest work, and a much smaller one on ordinary tasks. That trade is the whole proposition: you give up the top of the frontier and get a jurisdiction you can defend in an audit.
The OpenAI-compatible API matters more than it sounds. It makes them a drop-in swap for a subset of workloads rather than a migration project, which is the only realistic way a small European provider gets tried at all.
