# Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A form of psychological treatment that helps treat problems such as depression, anxiety, alcohol/drug addictions, marital problems, eating disorders, etc.
CBT has been proven to be as effective or even better than other forms of therapy and medications.
There are a few [[CBT Principles]] at the core.
CBT treatent involves efforts to change thinking patterns and relies on a number of [[CBT Strategies]]
CBT is centered on the individual and relies a lot on collaboration between the therapist and the patient. There are exercises and "homework" to help the patient learn to change their own thinking, problematic emotions and behaviors.
The emphasis is also put on what is going on in the person's current life, rather than what has led to their difficulties.
