# Cognitive reappraisal
Cognitive reappraisal is a widely recognized strategy for [[Emotional control]].
It is all about reappraising a situation; taking a new perspective, a new viewpoint. When our brain uses that strategy, it creates a new meaning to a situation, and the result of that reinterpretation alters the impact of that situation.
When we consider a fresh viewpoint, the [[Amygdala]] becomes less active and the [[Prefrontal cortex (PFC)]] becomes more active. We regain control of our emotions).
If we allow it to, the brain's voice of reason will be heard.
