# Custom Attachment Location plugin for Obsidian Custom Attachment Location is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Michael Naumov (mnaoumov) that controls where attachments are stored and how they're named, with variables like `$filename` or `$date` (the same idea as Typora). It's the heavyweight option for attachment naming: - Patterns for both the folder and the file name, including values read from the note's frontmatter or asked for when you paste - A "Collect attachments" command that moves existing attachments to where your settings say they belong - Commands to jump between a note and its attachments Good attachment names matter for search: with them, `file:` and `path:` do most of the work. Keeping attachments in sync when you rename a note is now handled by its companion plugin, [[Advanced Rename and Delete Handler plugin for Obsidian|Advanced Rename and Delete Handler]]. Pick either this or [[Paste image renamer plugin for Obsidian|Paste image rename]], not both. Two plugins renaming the same pasted file is asking for trouble. ## References - Source code: https://github.com/mnaoumov/obsidian-custom-attachment-location - Community plugin page: https://obsidian.md/plugins?id=obsidian-custom-attachment-location ## Related - [[The Complete Guide to Obsidian Search - Find Any Note When You Need It (Article)]] - [[The Best Obsidian Plugins for Finding Notes (Article)]] - [[Advanced Rename and Delete Handler plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Paste image renamer plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Clear unused images plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Obsidian Search]] - [[Obsidian Community Plugins]]
