On a personal level, FOMO needs to be noticed, and avoided. It's dangerous to fall for it, as it pushes us to make more emotional decisions.
On the other hand, FOMO is a useful concept to take advantage of for sales and marketing. Scarcity and limited-time offers are great ways to trigger FOMO, and push people to make a purchase.
