# File Tree Alternative plugin for Obsidian File Tree Alternative, by ozntel, replaces the single tree of the core [[File explorer core plugin for Obsidian|File explorer]] with two panes: folders on one side, the files of the selected folder on the other. You can show both at once (Evernote style) and split them horizontally or vertically. Useful details: note counts per folder, focusing on a folder (double-click) to save space, excluded folder paths, custom folder icons, and it remembers which folders were expanded and focused between sessions. No update since 2024. [[Notebook Navigator plugin for Obsidian|Notebook Navigator]] does the same two-pane job and is actively maintained, so that's what I'd install today. ## References - Source code: https://github.com/ozntel/file-tree-alternative - Community plugin page: https://obsidian.md/plugins?id=file-tree-alternative ## Related - [[The Complete Guide to Obsidian Search - Find Any Note When You Need It (Article)]] - [[The Best Obsidian Plugins for Finding Notes (Article)]] - [[File explorer core plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Notebook Navigator plugin for Obsidian]]
