# Floating Search plugin for Obsidian Floating Search is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Boninall that opens the [[Search core plugin for Obsidian|core Search]] in a modal with a preview pane. Same operators, same results, but you don't lose your place in the workspace. It also adds an `obsidian://fs?query=…` URI. It has three commands: `Search Obsidian Globally`, `Search Obsidian Globally (With Last State)` (which keeps your last query for 30 seconds) and `Search In Current File`. In the modal: - `↑`/`↓` select a result, `Tab` previews it on the right and `Shift+Tab` closes the preview - `Ctrl+G` jumps between the search box and the preview - `Enter` opens the note in the background, `Alt+Enter` opens it and closes the modal - right-click any selected text in a note to search for it Remember that the engine is still core Search: you get a better window, not better ranking. It runs on mobile, but maintenance has slowed. It's a replacement for [[Better Search Views plugin for Obsidian|Better Search Views]] and [[Quick Preview plugin for Obsidian|Quick Preview]], which haven't been updated since 2024. ## References - Source code: https://github.com/quorafind/Obsidian-Float-Search - Community plugin page: https://obsidian.md/plugins?id=float-search ## Related - [[The Complete Guide to Obsidian Search - Find Any Note When You Need It (Article)]] - [[The Best Obsidian Plugins for Finding Notes (Article)]] - [[Search core plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Core Search Assistant plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Omnisearch plugin for Obsidian]]
