# Front Matter Title plugin for Obsidian Front Matter Title is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by snezhig that shows a `title` property instead of the file name in the file explorer, Search, the quick switcher and link suggestions. If your files are named with IDs or timestamps, this is what makes them findable by name. It also replaces the name in Bookmarks, Backlinks, tabs, the graph and canvases, and optionally in link text. It never renames files: the display changes, but the file stays `202208251731.md`. The [[Recent files plugin for Obsidian|Recent files plugin]] works with it. [[Property Over File Name plugin for Obsidian|Property Over File Name]] takes a narrower approach: it lets you search for and insert links to notes by a title property instead of the file name. If you name your files properly in the first place, you need neither. I personally don't recommend using IDs as file names. That may help avoid file name conflicts, but it makes it much harder to recognize notes without opening them. ## References - Source code: https://github.com/snezhig/obsidian-front-matter-title - Community plugin page: https://obsidian.md/plugins?id=obsidian-front-matter-title-plugin ## Related - [[The Complete Guide to Obsidian Search - Find Any Note When You Need It (Article)]] - [[The Best Obsidian Plugins for Finding Notes (Article)]] - [[Obsidian Properties]] - [[Quick switcher core plugin for Obsidian]] - [[Recent files plugin for Obsidian]]
