# Khoj plugin for Obsidian
Khoj, by Khoj Inc., is an open source personal AI app with an Obsidian plugin. It's a full chat-with-your-notes stack: it indexes your notes (plus PDFs, Word files, org-mode files, Notion pages and more), then answers your questions from them with cited sources, using [[Semantic Search|semantic search]] under the hood.
- Works with local or online models (Llama, Qwen, Mistral, GPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, etc.)
- Self-hostable on your own computer, or usable through their cloud app
- Also available from the browser, Emacs, a desktop app, your phone and WhatsApp
- Custom agents with their own knowledge, persona and tools
It's more setup and more moving parts than a related-notes plugin. But if you want a chat-with-your-notes stack that you host yourself, Khoj is the one I'd look at.
Personally, I prefer pointing an agent like [[Claude Code]] at the vault folder: same files, no extra index to keep in sync (more in [[Obsidian AI Plugins]]).
