# Knowii Community plugin for Obsidian A plugin that brings the [[Knowii Community]] into Obsidian: the community in a pane (feed, spaces, questions, direct messages and events, right next to your notes), and notifications when something happens there, so members never miss a message, a reply or a new post. Built for the [[Obsidian Starter Kit]] customers. The pane hosts the community as the community serves it (a webview with its own persistent sign-in). Notifications and the inbox read the community's own web endpoints, as the signed-in member, so no paid API plan is needed. When the community moves away from [[Circle.so]], the pane only needs a new address, and everything else goes through a provider interface that a new platform can implement. ## What it does ### The community in a pane - The whole community in a pane, as a main tab or docked in a sidebar - Sign in once; the pane remembers you across restarts - A toolbar with back, forward, reload, shortcuts (home, feed, messages, notifications, events, members), an inbox button with the unread count, and "Open in browser" - Welcome card on first open: sign in, or discover Knowii for non-members - Admin menu (dashboard, audience) for community admins only ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin.png]] ### Notifications - Real time on desktop: the plugin keeps the same live connection as Knowii's web app, so new messages and notifications show up within seconds; a background check (every minute by default) stays as the safety net, and is what keeps mobile informed - Tells you about direct messages, chat messages, thread replies, mentions, comments, new posts, likes, events and new members, each kind switchable - Watches the whole community, not only what Knowii notifies you about: new posts, comments and chat messages in every space you belong to, with a switch per space - Notices inside Obsidian and system notifications (always, only in the background, or never); click one to open the item - Unread counts in the status bar and on the ribbon icon ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin - notifications.png]] ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin - notifications 2.png]] ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin - notifications 4.png]] ### What's new inbox - A list of recent activity, newest first, unread in bold (Gmail style), searchable, with `is:unread` to keep the unread ones - Opening an item marks it as read; mark as read and archive per item or all at once, on Knowii too (the web app agrees) - Right-click the ribbon icon for the latest unread items, "mark all as read", "archive read" and upcoming events - Keyboard triage: Ctrl+J/K to move, Ctrl+E to archive, Ctrl/Cmd+Enter to mark as read, Ctrl/Cmd+S to save, Ctrl/Cmd+R to reply ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin - notifications 3 - blurred.png]] ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin - notifications 5 - blurred.png]] ### From the community to your vault, and back - Save any post (with its comments) or chat message (with its whole thread) as a note, from the inbox or while reading it in the pane; saving again never overwrites your additions - Ask the community from a selection or a whole note: pick a space, post, and it opens in the pane - Reply to direct messages from the notice or the inbox, without opening Knowii - Upcoming events in one list, with a reminder 15 minutes before those you attend ![[2026-09-22 - knowii plugin - save as note.png]] ### On phones and tablets - The pane becomes an inbox of what's new: All and Unread tabs, a filter, and buttons on every item to reply, save as a note, mark as read or archive; items open in the browser - Check now, upcoming events and "ask the community" from the pane's header - The whole UI adapts from a phone to a wide monitor: in a narrow sidebar the toolbar keeps its icons and folds the shortcuts into a "Go to" menu; on touch screens buttons are finger-sized and nothing hides behind a hover ### Everywhere - Commands for the palette and hotkeys (open, jump to a destination, what's new, check now, mark all as read, archive read, save the current page as a note, ask the community, upcoming events, reload, open in browser) - The session is stored in the plugin settings, so other devices where the vault syncs get notified too (mobile included), and the pane opens already signed in. Each vault keeps its own: a new vault starts signed out - Settings: pane location, toolbar, zoom, ribbon icon, check interval, notices, system notifications, badges, kinds of activity, spaces to watch, folder for saved posts - Built on a community provider layer: moving the community off [[Circle.so]] means a new adapter, not a new plugin ![[Knowii Community plugin for Obsidian - view.png]] ## References - Repository: https://github.com/knowii-oss/obsidian-knowii-community - Docs: https://knowii-oss.github.io/obsidian-knowii-community/ - Community: https://community.obsidian.md/plugins/knowii-community - Releases: https://github.com/knowii-oss/obsidian-knowii-community/releases ## Related - [[Knowii Community]]
