# Knowledge Ingestion Process The knowledge ingestion process aims to turn raw captures (e.g., as part of your daily notes) into valuable and actionable knowledge fully integrated within your [[Knowledge Graph (KG)]]. ## Goals - Cleanup what you don't need anymore - Extract ideas you still care about into separate notes - Enrich your [[Knowledge Graph (KG)]] - Make those valuable/actionable (i.e., turn knowledge into wisdom ❤️) ## Process - Look at the past n daily notes (e.g., last week's notes) during your weekly review (cfr [[Periodic reviews]]) - For each, remove notes you don't need anymore (or keep in there just in case) - Update relevant goals, projects, tasks if needed - Create 1-n [[Atomic notes]] with the notes that remain - Make those good or great (cfr [[Characteristics of good notes]]): Add metadata, tags, links, ... This process directly expands/improves the [[Knowledge Graph (KG)]] AND contributes to/enables [[Knowledge rollover through Periodic Reviews]]. For longer time horizons (mostly month and year in my case), I create/open the monthly/yearly note and copy/paste links, achievements, etc. It’s been a manual process for me thus far, but AI could very well do this now. I just like doing it myself, being slow & mindful about it, reminding me about what happened, etc. ## What if you write about X over multiple days When you continue exploring the same topic over multiple days, you have different options, and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter too much; it's a matter of preference: - Either you just edit in the previous daily note, so all your notes about X are in one place. That approach makes the future knowledge ingestion process easier easier to extract to separate notes at the end of the week or later - Or you just add new ideas to your current daily note, and you keep the grouping/cleaning up... for the knowledge ingestion process to handle - Or you take a bit of time to create separate notes, cut/paste the content from the previous daily note(s) into the new notes, append your new ideas and add the link to the newly created notes in both the previous daily note and the current My choice is generally to move the content from my previous daily note to my current daily note so that I can continue expanding the ideas about X in a single place. This makes it easier for me to reorganize/edit/complete/remove things. I don’t mind if I lose track of the fact that I explored idea X on day A or A+B. This is my recommended approach to deal with this common situation. ## Related - [[Atomic notes]] - [[Characteristics of good notes]] - [[Interstitial Journaling]] - [[Knowledge Graph (KG)]] - [[Knowledge Ingestion Process (Draft)]] - [[Knowledge rollover through Periodic Reviews]] - [[Periodic reviews]] - [[Personal Knowledge Management (PKM)]] - [[The Knowledge Funnel - From Capture to Connected Notes (Article)]]
