# Media Extended plugin for Obsidian Media Extended is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Aiden Liu (aidenlx) that turns Obsidian into a video note-taking tool. It plays local audio and video files, remote URLs, and videos from YouTube or Vimeo, with global playback hotkeys and the option to pin a player. The main feature is timestamped notes: insert a link to a specific moment in one click, and clicking it later jumps back to that moment. From a search perspective, it also helps with subtitles and transcripts (`.srt`, `.vtt`). Those aren't Markdown, so core Search ignores them; Media Extended links them to the video and makes them searchable inside its player. Heads-up: since version 4, the plugin is closed source.
