# Note Definitions plugin for Obsidian
Note Definitions is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Dominic Let (dominiclet). It's a personal dictionary for your notes: each term you define is underlined everywhere it appears, and you hover it to read the definition.
How it works:
- Right-click a folder and choose `Set definition folder`
- Add entries with the `Add definition` command (select the text first)
- Hover an underlined term, or run `Preview definition`; `Go to definition` opens the entry
Definitions are plain [[Markdown]] files in your vault, with no hidden metadata. A file holds either many definitions ("consolidated") or one ("atomic"), set with the `def-type` property. Follow the definition rules from the README if you edit those files by hand.
One caveat: define common words and you'll see underlines everywhere. [[Fakelink plugin for Obsidian|Fakelink]] takes a related approach, with virtual links to your notes instead of a dictionary.
