# Porkbun
Porkbun is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar from Tigard, Oregon, and part of Top Level Design. It manages more than 4 million domains for over 750,000 customers. The mascot is a pig in a bun, and the whole site keeps that playful tone.
Why care about yet another registrar? Because most of them play the same game: a cheap first year, then a renewal price that quietly doubles. Porkbun shows the renewal price upfront and keeps it low. A .com starts at \$11.08, a .xyz at \$2.04 and a .lol at \$1.54. And the extras other registrars upsell come free with every domain: WHOIS privacy ("your privacy shouldn't come at a price"), SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt with auto-renewal, URL forwarding, email forwarding for up to 20 addresses, and [[Domain Name System (DNS)|DNS]] powered by [[Cloudflare]].
Around the registrar sits a full toolbox. You can search up to 100 domains in one go, bid in auctions, grab expired domains in closeouts or buy from the marketplace. Hosting covers WordPress (cloud), cPanel, static sites, Easy PHP, a site builder and a link-in-bio page. Email hosting runs through Porkbun Email or [[Proton Mail]], at \$3 per inbox per month (billed annually). There are free utilities too: RDAP/WHOIS lookup, a DMARC record generator, a password generator and an IP lookup.
What caught my eye is the developer side. Porkbun has a JSON API (v3), an MCP server and a dedicated "For AI Agents" page. So an agent can check availability, register a domain and set DNS records without a human clicking through a dashboard. I strongly believe every service will need to do this sooner or later, and a domain registrar is one of the first I've seen that treats [[AI Agents]] as real users (with [[Model Context Protocol (MCP)|MCP]] as the front door).
The reputation follows. USA Today ranked it the #1 registrar from 2023 to 2025, Forbes did the same in 2025 and 2026, and it sits at 4.8 stars on Trustpilot. Support is old-school in a good way: humans answer the phone from 9 to 5 Pacific time, weekends included, and email support runs 24/7.
For the record, [[DeveloPassion - Infra - Domains and Registrars|my own domains]] are registered at OVH and Namecheap, with DNS on Cloudflare. I haven't used Porkbun myself (yet).
