# Portfolio thinking
Portfolio thinking is a way to approach the creation of a network of interconnected projects/products. By thinking of those as a portfolio rather than as completely independent endeavors, we can uncover and reinforce synergies and [[Flywheels]].
When entering a market, thinking in terms of portfolio building rather than product building helps to uncover additional opportunities. Why limit ourselves to a single winner-take-all project? Instead, focusing on building a portfolio of [[Small and riskless bets]] is much safer, and potentially much more impactful in the long run.
[[Deep work]] is all the hype. It shouldn't be misunderstood, though. While deep work really helps to make progress towards a specific goal, there's no need for that goal to be constrained. Portfolio thinking expands the idea of deep work to allow for multiple projects to run in parallel. Ideally, those projects should not be mutually exclusive or interfere with each other. While focusing all your energy on interconnected projects, there are often opportunities to discover and reinforce synergies between those, leading to better results.
