# Readwise Readwise is a SaaS platform that makes it a breeze to capture highlights from articles, books, videos, etc. Using the browser extension or mobile application, you can capture all the information you care about (e.g., highlights, articles, books, documents, videos, images, etc). You can then review those highlights, receive daily/weekly summaries, etc. Main features: - Curate content (articles, videos, books, emails, etc) - Consume, and capture highlights as well as notes - Chat with highlights and notes using AI - Export highlights to various other tools - Receive emails with recent highlights and summaries to review Readwise has a Web user interface, but also browser extensions and mobile applications for Android and iOS. Readwise is a paid service: - Lite: $5.5 per month, billed annually - Includes - Daily review (email & app) - Browse and search highlights library - Sync new highlights from all sources - Does not include - Highlights organization - Exports - Reading app - Access to beta features - Locking the price - Standard: $9.99 per month, billed annually - Includes all features ## Ghostreader: chat with a document, or with the whole library Ghostreader is the AI layer inside Reader. It started as per-document features (summaries, Quick Lookup on a selection, custom prompts, chat with the open document), and on 3 September 2026 it became **agentic and library-wide**: you can now chat with everything you have ever saved. What the library chat does: - **Searches your library for you** and answers with citations to the exact passages, in any article, tweet, PDF, book, video, or newsletter you saved - **Quizzes you** on what you read - **Organises your documents**: tagging, moving, cleaning up, on request - Keeps a conversation history, so follow-ups build on earlier answers - Two modes: **Fast** (quick replies, less thinking) and **Thinking** (slower, more thorough) How to open it: on web and desktop, click **Chat** in the right sidebar or press the backtick key twice (`` ` ` ``). Library-wide chat is web and desktop only for now; mobile has the per-document chat ("Ask anything..." in the bottom toolbar, or select text and tap the ghost icon). Responses can be saved as a document note or copied. Why this matters for a PKM workflow: the reading library stops being an archive you search by keyword and becomes something you can interrogate. "What did I save about X, and what did I highlight?" now returns the passages, not a list of documents to reopen. It's the same shift I use the [[Readwise CLI]] and [[Readwise MCP Server]] for from the terminal, delivered inside the app for everyone else.
