# Recent Notes plugin for Obsidian
Recent Notes is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Kamil Rudnicki. It lists your recently *edited* notes in a sidebar timeline, grouped by period (Today, Yesterday, This Week…), Apple Notes style. The [[Recent files plugin for Obsidian|Recent Files]] plugin does the same for recently *opened* files.
Each entry shows the title, the first lines of the note, the last edit time, the folder path, and a thumbnail for images and media. You can:
- Filter by file type (Markdown, images, PDF, audio, video, canvas, CSV)
- Pin notes and exclude folders
- Show the `title` property instead of the file name
- Move between entries with the keyboard
Open it from the clock icon in the ribbon or with the `Show Recent Notes` command.
Before installing it, try an [[Obsidian Bases|Obsidian Base]] sorted by `file.mtime` (with a limit) in your sidebar: it does the same job with zero plugins. Sort by `file.ctime` instead and you get "recently created". Personally, I prefer a query for this ([[Dataview plugin for Obsidian|Dataview]] + [[Dataview Serializer plugin for Obsidian|Dataview Serializer]] in my case).
