# Secondary emotions Secondary [[Emotions (MoC)|Emotions]] are emotional reactions to emotions. Examples: - Feeling shame when you get angry - Feeling angry when you have a shame response (e.g., hurt feelings) - Feeling fear when you get angry (maybe you've been punished for anger) When we have a secondary emotion, the key is to figure out what the primary emotion is (i.e., the feeling at the root). That way we can take an action that is actually helpful. ## Related - [[Secondary emotions are learned]] - [[Primary emotions]]
