# Seek plugin for Obsidian
Seek is an [[Obsidian]] community plugin by Ryan Manor that does hybrid search. It combines keyword search (BM25, through MiniSearch) with a small multilingual embedding model (IBM Granite, about 100 MB once quantized) that runs inside Obsidian. Keyword search finds the exact words; the embedding model finds notes about the same idea, even in other words or another language. Seek merges both scores, then boosts recent notes and title matches.
It claims support for 52 languages plus code, with CJK word segmentation on the keyword side. That matters for Japanese and Korean, which [[Omnisearch plugin for Obsidian|Omnisearch]] doesn't segment.
Its search box accepts inline filters with autocompletion: `#tag` or `tag:name`, `path:folder`, `[key:value]` for properties, and date ranges. The index can be synced across your devices, mobile included. Everything runs locally after the first download of the model (from [[HuggingFace|Hugging Face]]) and its runtime. It needs at least 200 notes.
It's promising but young, and not manually reviewed by Obsidian staff yet. Early users reported a slow first indexing run and WebGPU problems on some Linux machines, so test it before relying on it. More about the approach in [[Semantic Search]].
