# Tella
Tella is a screen recorder and a video editor in one app, with hosting and sharing built in. You record, polish and send a link without moving files between three different tools. The company pitches it as a Loom replacement that also handles long-form editing and hosting.
What makes it work is how it records. Screen, camera, microphone and system audio land on separate tracks, so the layout stays editable after the fact. You can resize the camera, switch from picture-in-picture to side-by-side or full screen, or hide a source entirely, and you never have to record again or redo the edit. A single clip can run up to 6 hours, and you can combine as many clips as you want.
Editing happens through the transcript. You delete mistakes, filler words and silences by removing text, and the video follows (the same idea [[Descript]] built its whole product on). On top of that, Tella polishes everything by default: layouts, backgrounds, zooms and subtitles. Audio cleanup takes one click: noise and echo removal, plus voice normalization.
Sharing is where it differs from a classic editor. Videos render instantly and get shared as a link that never expires. Viewer analytics show who watched, for how long, and where people dropped off. If you'd rather publish elsewhere (e.g., on YouTube), export goes up to 4K at 60 fps. Teams get a shared workspace for editing, review and publishing, plus a video library for demos, tutorials and courses.
It runs in the browser, as a macOS or Windows app, and as a Chrome extension. There's a 7-day Pro trial (no credit card required), and paid plans start at $13/month. Tella is SOC 2 Type II compliant, which matters for the sales, product, support and enterprise teams it targets next to creators, YouTubers and educators.
Why I care: I create courses, YouTube videos and product demos for [[DeveloPassion]], and that's exactly the kind of content Tella is built for. It's also on my inspiration list for [[Knowii Video AI (Project)]], my own take on transcript-driven video editing. Keep the tracks separate and "record once, fix the layout later" becomes a real workflow.
