# Theory behind the PARA method
[[Tiago Forte]] has shared some details about the theory behind the [[PARA method]]:
1. Kanban: pieces of work move linearly through discrete stages
2. Work-in-process limits: each stage has limited slots that can be filled
3. LIFO: most recently accessed info is kept most accessible, because it will likely be needed the soonest
4. Info hierarchies: the most important info should be visually distinguishable, and therefore most accessible
5. "Small world" property: smaller agglomerations of info are healthier than a single homogeneous network
6. Stocks vs. flows: projects are discrete stocks, whereas areas are continuous flows of info
7. Flat hierarchies: no more than 2 layers allowed, preventing silos
1. Aka the [[LIFT principle]]
