# Third place
In [[The Great Good Place (book)]], [[Ray Oldenburg]] has argued that we have two main places in our lives, "home" (the first place), and "work" (the second place). In addition, he also described a third place: "communities", which are separate from the first two. He considered that third places are important for society, democracy, civic engagement, the sense of belonging, etc.
