# Why Test
The Why Test is a simpler framework developed by [[Emily Heyward]]. It was created to help founders improve their marketing and branding. But it can also be used for [[Root-cause analysis (RCA)]], similarly to [[Ishikawa diagrams]] and the [[Five Whys Technique]], or even to life/career decisions.
The core idea is to ask the following question multiple times: **"Why does *that* matter?"**.
Asking that question multiple times is like peeling an onion, uncovering deeper and deeper reasons/causes/motivations.
