# Art Williams
Arthur L. "Art" Williams Jr. (born April 26, 1942) is an American insurance executive and motivational speaker. He founded A.L. Williams & Associates in 1977, which became Primerica Financial Services in 1991. Starting as a high school football coach earning $10,700, Williams built his company into the largest seller of individual life insurance in the United States.
Born in Cairo, Georgia, Williams obtained his bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and master's degree from Auburn University. After his father's unexpected death in 1963 left his family underinsured due to whole life insurance policies, Williams became a crusader for term life insurance, advocating "buy term and invest the difference."
Williams founded A.L. Williams & Associates on February 10, 1977, with 85 agents. The company experienced explosive growth, becoming a billion-dollar company in ten years and eventually employing 225,000 people. In 1989, he sold the company to Primerica Corporation, later regretting the decision.
He also owned sports teams including the Birmingham Barracudas (CFL) and Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) briefly. Williams authored five books including the bestseller "All You Can Do Is All You Can Do, But All You Can Do Is Enough" and is known for his motivational speeches, particularly "Just Do It."
