# Boris Cherny ![[50 Resources/51 Attachments/51.03 Public/2026-05-04 Boris Cherny.jpg|400]] Boris Cherny is the creator and head of [[Claude Code]] at [[Anthropic]]. He joined Anthropic in September 2024 and built the original prototype of Claude Code. Before Anthropic, he was a Principal Engineer (IC8) at [[Meta]]/Instagram. At Meta, he worked on projects including "Chats in Groups" (bridging Messenger and Facebook Groups), led the migration of Facebook Groups to Comet, and created Undux, a state management framework for [[React]]. At Instagram, he led a major migration from [[Python]] to Hack/HHVM infrastructure. He is the author of "Programming TypeScript: Making Your JavaScript Applications Scale" (O'Reilly, 2019), and founded the San Francisco [[TypeScript]] Meetup. He studied economics at the University of California, San Diego (2009-2011), then dropped out to start startups.
