Guido van Rossum is a Dutch programmer best known as the creator of [[Python]]. Born in the Netherlands, he developed Python in the late 1980s while working at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam, with the first version released in 1991.
Van Rossum served as Python's "Benevolent Dictator For Life" (BDFL) until 2018, when he stepped down from the role after nearly 30 years of leading the language's development. His design philosophy emphasized code readability and simplicity, famously captured in "The Zen of Python" (`import this`).

- **CNRI** (1995-2000): Continued Python development
- **Google** (2005-2012): Worked on various projects, spent 50% of time on Python
- **Dropbox** (2013-2019): Senior engineer
- **Microsoft** (2020-present): Distinguished Engineer, working on Python performance
## Key Contributions
