# Jeff Dean ![[50 Resources/51 Attachments/51.03 Public/2026-05-04 Jeff Dean.jpg|400]] Jeff Dean is Chief Scientist of Google DeepMind and Google Research, and the technical lead for [[Gemini]]. One of Google's earliest and most influential engineers, he joined the company in 1999 and has shaped much of its core infrastructure and AI platform. He co-designed MapReduce, Bigtable, Spanner, Protocol Buffers, LevelDB, and TensorFlow, and co-founded Google Brain in 2011, which merged with DeepMind in 2023. His work spans distributed systems, compilers, information retrieval, and deep learning at scale.
