# Julien Chaumond Julien Chaumond is the co-founder and CTO of [[HuggingFace]]. He's the technical half of the founding trio: while [[Clement Delangue]] is the public face, Julien is the one who built the machine underneath. His training is about as French-elite as it gets: École Polytechnique for applied maths, then a master's in EECS at Stanford. Before Hugging Face he co-founded Glose (a social ebook-reading startup), wrote code at Stupeflix, and spent a stint advising the French Ministry of Economy on digital affairs. He'd known Clem for years, and Thomas Wolf was an old friend from engineering school. In 2016 the three of them started Hugging Face in New York. Here's what I find worth noting. Julien is the kind of builder who shows up in the commit history, not the keynote. He helped turn a teenage chatbot app into the home of open machine learning, and he's a big reason the [[Transformers]] library and the rest of the tooling actually work in production and not just in a demo.
