# Scott Wu
Scott Wu is the co-founder and CEO of [[Cognition (AI Company)]], the company behind [[Devin]], an autonomous AI software engineer. He was born in 1997 in Louisiana to a family of Chinese immigrants, started coding around the age of twelve, and made his name as a competitive programmer before moving into startups.
His competition record is unusual. He won three gold medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics, placing first overall in 2014, and reached Legendary Grandmaster on Codeforces with a peak rating of 3350. His older brother Neal Wu has a similar pedigree, also with three IOI golds, and now works alongside him at Cognition.
Wu studied at Harvard for two years and left before finishing. From 2017 to 2022 he co-founded and served as CTO of Lunchclub, a networking startup, which earned him a place on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2020. He co-founded Cognition in 2023.
His pitch for Devin reframes what an AI coding tool should be. Instead of an autocomplete living inside the editor, Devin is meant to behave like a remote engineer you delegate to through Slack, Linear, and GitHub. That framing has driven Cognition's fast climb in valuation since launch.
