# Will Durant
American historian and philosopher (1885-1981). Author of `The Story of Philosophy` (1926) and, with Ariel Durant, the eleven-volume `The Story of Civilization`.
He is the actual author of several lines popularly attributed to [[Aristotle]]. In `The Story of Philosophy` he synthesised passages from the `Nicomachean Ethics` into his own English formulation, which then circulated as if it were a translation. A tell: genuine translations from ancient Greek vary between translators, while these lines appear verbatim identical everywhere because they were written in English in the twentieth century.
