# Transcribe (Seventh String)
Transcribe! is a desktop app by Seventh String Software (Andy Robinson) for working out music from recordings by ear. Think of it as a player built for transcription. It does NOT transcribe for you, and it doesn't output notation or MIDI.
It's also handy for play-along practice (slow the song down, loop the hard part) and even for transcribing speech.
## Key features
- **Slow-down without pitch change**: 1/20x to 2x speed, plus pitch/tuning adjustment and transposition
- **Loops**: name them, store them, recall them
- **Waveform with markers**: sections, measures, beats, text labels and annotations. Click anywhere to play from that point
- **Spectrum analysis**: note and chord guessing, an optional piano-roll view and an on-screen piano keyboard for reference notes
- **Audio effects**: mono/karaoke mixing (centre-channel cut) and EQ to isolate parts
- **Control**: keyboard shortcuts, foot pedal support, scripting
- **Video playback** for most video files, plus recording from analog sources
- **Platforms**: Windows, macOS, Linux
- **Licensing**: paid, with a free 30-day evaluation
It's not an audio editor, although it can save modified audio to a new file. It doesn't handle MIDI files either.
