# Dan Shipper
Co-founder and CEO of [[Every (Company)]]. Writes **Chain of Thought**, a weekly column about AI, tools for thought, and the psychology of work, read by 130,000+ people.
Before Every, he co-founded Firefly, a customer-support company started while at Penn and sold to Pegasystems in 2014. Writing online since 2010. Launched Every in 2020 with Nathan Baschez as a bundle of business newsletters; GPT-3's release the same year is what pushed him all-in on AI.
## Why he's worth following
He is running the experiment most people are only talking about: a 15-person company where engineers write virtually no code, five products ship, and the media arm funds the software arm. He publishes the mechanics, not just the conclusions, which makes the writing usable rather than inspirational.
The position he keeps returning to, and that I share: **writing is thinking**, and AI that writes *for* you is worth less than AI that helps you think. [[Spiral (AI)]] is that thesis turned into a product, right down to grading itself on whether the output still sounds like you.
His counter-intuitive organisational claim: as you scale AI agents instead of hiring specialists, job titles blur and everyone becomes a manager of AI tools. Generalists win.
